Dry Cupping

Myofascial Decompression

Dry Cupping works brilliantly alongside the massage treatments I offer, so I don't currently offer it as a standalone treatment but will incorporate it into your session if I feel it's appropriate and you're happy for me to.

However, if you would like a dedicated Dry Cupping treatment, please add it into the notes section when making your booking.

Dry Cupping

â€‹                    (a method for Myofascial Decompression)  is a treatment that dates back to around 300AD and was originally used to treat skin disorders and fight tuberculosis, among other conditions.  It works by placing cups onto the skin, removing some of the air to create a vacuum which in turn pulls the skin, fascia and superficial muscles beneath it into the cup.  This negative pressure works to lift and separate the layers of tissue, creating space and lubrication between fibres which increases their glide and slide ability. This all works to reduce tension, pain and inflexibility.  The separation of tissues greatly increases blood flow to the area, bringing fresh oxygen and nutrients to tissues that were previously deficient.  As well as blood flow, your lymphatic system will be stimulated causing an increase in toxin disposal from your body via your lymph nodes.

All this promotes cellular repair and growth and can greatly improve the following:

Sports injuries (affected muscles, tendons & ligaments)

Muscular imbalance/tension

Chronic pain

Scar tissue

Sciatica

Joint pain

Poor circulation, cold hands or feet

Pulmonary problems

People also report improved sleep, energy levels, hay-fever and sinus relief, and feelings of well-being.

While the positive effects definitely outweigh the negative effects, you do need to be made aware that cupping is likely to leave circular marks on your skin anywhere from a few hours to several days after treatment.  If you're planning a night out or wearing something that will expose the area being worked on, make sure you plan your treatment in good time!  I can help answer any questions about this to make things easier.

As with massage, I will tailor the treatment to suit your needs and if it feels uncomfortable at any time I will adapt what I'm doing.

If you are on blood thinners or in the first trimester of pregnancy, this treatment is not safe.
